This is the biggest behind the scenes update in a long time. There are many internal changes to improve reliability, and as a bonus, MzFit now launches faster.
If you’re new to MzFit, MzFit is an app for iPhone and iPad that lets you do YouTube workout videos. But better.
- Filter and search to find exactly the workout videos you’re looking for.
- No ads during your workouts.
- Apple Watch integration - automatically track your heart rate and calories during your workout.
- Stack your workout videos to make one big workout, ad-free.
- Daily workout schedules.
You can download it now in the App Store
The features you’ll notice as an existing user are as follows:
Favorite Channels
Now instead of showing you all the different workout types (e.g. cycling, rowing, etc.) that MzFit could support, we only show the workout types you’ve already expressed interest in. Instead of lumping all your favorite channels in one group, now you can see all your favorite pilates channels under “Pilates”, all your favorite yoga channels under “Yoga”, etc.
Improved Filters
When you filter your favorite channels and workout types, the filter screen has been updated to make it more obvious when there are more choices to scroll to.
In addition, filters have been organized by category such as the part of the body to target ot the style of the practice.
Finally, filters are now inclusive, so if you filter on “Arms”, “Legs”, and “Core” you get workouts that target any of those body parts instead of workouts that target all of those body parts.
Faster Launch Time
MzFit now launches faster! Often a lot faster! Quicker access to your favorite workouts!
Stacks, Playlists, and Smart Playlists
Improved layout, with Playlists simplified and renamed to “Stacks” and the overall navigation menu simplified to only 4 items.
Stacks are automatically saved in “Library” and Smart Playlists have also been moved to “Library.”
This Week
Classes have been renamed to “This Week” to make it clear that this makes a unique workout schedule for the week. No more need to select your classes. This Week shows you available class schedules for all of your most used channels automatically. Also new is that This Week generates a schedule for all channels, not just the stock MzFit channels.
Modernization
The app has been updated to take advantage of the latest Apple technologies. This includes moving the navigation menu on iPads to the top of the app and changing the way the app makes network calls to utilize Apple’s updates to concurrency. This also means migrating to iOS/iPadOS version 17 as the minimum supported version.
Apple Watch More Reliable
If you have an Apple Watch, connectivity with it should be more reliable for capturing your workouts. Especially if you screen cast your workouts to a smart TV via AirPlay.
New User Onboarding
Additionally, this is the first in a planned series of updates to make it easier to discover workouts. First time users will be prompted to choose which workout types and details they are interested in, and MzFit will recommend the best channels to match that criteria.
Minimum Requirements
The minimum requirements for running MzFit are now iOS 17. In broad strokes, this means you need an iPhone released after 2018 ( 6 years ago) or an iPad from relatively the same time period.
See here: for a complete list. This means MzFit will no longer support iPhone 6,7,8, or X. Sorry, it was time.
